The ONGD Harreman has organized a talk about the cooperation program they support in Mozambique. The event will take place at the Eskoriatza culture house, on Thursday, February 15, at 6:30 p.m.
Elena Ramos and Xabi Garabiota, Mundukide collaborators based in Mozambique, will take stock of the program and the impact of our collaboration on the people who participate.
If we organize the countries according to the Human Development Index, Mozambique ranks 185, so its inhabitants are the worst in the human development ranking (HDI). The HDI takes into account variables such as a long and healthy life, knowledge and a decent standard of living. Therefore, among other things, life expectancy in Mozambique is 59.33 years, mortality (8.79‰) and per capita income is 424 euros.
In the north of the country the situation is tougher, entrenched poverty affects 75% of the population of northern Mozambique and peasant families live on an average of €300 per year.
The Mozambique program accompanies farmers to increase agricultural production and product diversification. The program offers opportunities to increase the capacity of the local population to generate an income that contributes to equitable and sustainable development so that they become autonomous, resilient and self-sufficient people.
Some characteristics of the Mozambique Program:
It is the farmer himself who decides to participate in the program
The program does not distribute material goods or salaries.
The program does not influence the mentalities of the farmers, nor does it condition their expenses.
The program does not promote macro-structural change in the country.
