The Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture of the Federal Government has launched and presented this Monday (4/22/2024) the “Coopera Mais Brasil” program at the National Meetings of Cooperatives held in Brasilia.
Aimed at strengthening cooperativism, intercooperation and solidarity businesses in family farming, Coopera Mais Brasil has the participation of various public institutions and civil society, among which is the MST “Landless Peasant Movement”.
Itziar Aranburu (Ulma partner) and Julio Martinez (Eroski partner), Mundukide cooperators who work alongside MST cooperatives in Brazil, make the following summary:
“The representatives of the MST cooperatives have used the meeting to present the challenges of the movement cooperatives and the political lines of MST. Among them, the importance of agroecology and women in agriculture and the importance of respect for the environment environment. They have presented an agroecological diversification plan so that the production of healthy foods is a model for MST settlements and camps.
They have highlighted cooperativism as an alternative to escape poverty, underlining the importance of institutional intercooperation. The members of MST have made it clear that the people’s response to capitalism must be based on the cooperative model, remaining firm in the fight for agrarian reform.
Furthermore, in this year in which the 40 years of the MST are celebrated, on the night of April 23, the VII will be celebrated. They took the opportunity to present the congress.
